Laminate & Engineered Wooden Flooring in Mumbai

Real timber underfoot — or a convincing, cheaper stand-in.

Two products, often confused, sold side by side. Laminate is a photographic décor layer under a hard wear coat on an HDF core — it looks like wood, costs the least of any wood-look floor, and is not wood. Engineered flooring has a genuine hardwood veneer on a plywood core: it is real timber underfoot, can be sanded and refinished once or twice, and feels and sounds like the solid floor it replaced.

Both click together over an underlay with no adhesive, and both go down over existing tiles in a day or two. What they share is a weakness worth stating plainly: neither likes standing water, and in a Mumbai flat that rules out bathrooms and makes an open kitchen a judgement call. Where water is a real risk, SPC is the correct floor and we will point you at it instead.

Benefits

Why choose wooden flooring?

Real timber option

Engineered planks carry a genuine oak, teak, or walnut veneer — not a printed décor.

Laminate for budget projects

The lowest-cost route to a wood-look floor, in AC3 to AC5 wear grades.

Down in a day or two

Floating click-lock installation over level tiles — no adhesive, no demolition, no curing.

Engineered can be refinished

A 3mm veneer takes one or two sandings, so scratches after ten years are not the end of the floor.

Quiet and warm underfoot

Foam or IXPE underlay softens footfall noise and takes the chill out of a tiled slab.

FAQs

Wooden Flooring — common questions

SPC if water is a real risk or the floor takes heavy traffic. Engineered if you want genuine timber and are prepared to look after it. Laminate if budget leads and the room stays dry. We bring samples of all three and it is usually obvious within a minute of handling them.

No. Water-resistant grades survive a wiped-up spill; standing water swells the HDF core at the joints and the swelling is permanent. Bathrooms, balconies, and utility areas are not laminate rooms, whatever the brochure says.

Yes, if the tiles are level and sound — that is the usual installation here, and it saves a demolition. Any hollow or lifted tiles are fixed first, and we check door clearances, because the floor rises by about 10–12mm.

A floating floor expands and contracts with humidity, and Mumbai gives it plenty to work with. A 10mm expansion gap around the perimeter, hidden under the skirting, is what stops the floor buckling in the middle of the room. Floors laid tight to the wall peak within a monsoon.

Sweep, and mop with a barely damp mop — never a wet one. Felt pads under furniture legs, and a doormat at the entry to keep grit off the surface. That is genuinely all, for both laminate and engineered.
